DH Day Trip
DH Stocking is May 3rd.

Curtis Creek is nestled in the mountains at the base of the Blue Ridge just minutes from the quaint town of Old Fort and less than an hour from the popular city of Asheville. Located in the first tract of National Forest land in the eastern US at the site of an old Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) camp, the campground is surrounded by old growth forests and roaring trout streams. The gravel road through the campground ascends to the Blue Ridge Parkway, providing easy access to the Mount Mitchell area.

  • I-40 West take Exit 75.
  • Turn left onto Greenlee Road.
  • In 1.2 miles there will be a stop sign at Route 70 (E. Main St.).
  • Go straight across Route 70 onto Curtis Creek Road.
  • In 1.5 miles bear left onto a gravel road (FR4030).
  • Go across Curtis Creek bridge to parking (N35.65568/W082.17738).

This location has a handicap ramp with easy access and parking.  There is another handicap ramp .8 miles up the road where Deep Branch comes in and the DH starts.  From this point 2.8 miles is Curtis Creek Campground.  From here you are really blue lining.
